Our client is looking for a systems administrator to work in their office in Benoni.
The Role
Core responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Configuring, maintaining and administering all systems-related technology and infrastructure within Company Enterprise branches and multiple data centres
- Undertaking cross-functional tasks and providing assistance to network administrators
- Liaising with third party providers in a professional manner
- Undertaking UPS operational/functionality checks per prescribed checklist(s)
- Checking that OEM UPS suppliers’ maintenance regimes are completed per SLA
- Processing “first point of contact” calls for UPS and systems issues and/or failures
- Retrieving camera footage for review
- Monitoring and maintaining camera hardware and cabling
Planning and setting up systems’ infrastructure
- Implementing validated patches and updates
- Configuring web service platforms
- Implementing VM as per requirements of the business/product
- Assisting network administrators
- Planning and reporting on VM host capacity within the company
- Diagnosing system faults
Maintaining high availability of systems’ infrastructure
- Identifying system evolution improvement requirements
- Identifying, testing and recommending new and/or improved systems and usage
- Identifying, testing and confirming hardware and software compatibilities
- Collaborating with network administrators on corporate network design
- Testing and validating software patches and updates
- Troubleshooting and resolving systems’ performance and access issues
- Maintaining robust security compliance (such as OS updates, anti-virus updates/warnings)
- Creating, configuring and maintaining isolated (ring-fenced) virtual environments
- Responding to and rectifying system-generated warnings, errors and failures
- Recovering server data from hardware failures
- Recovering end user data from hardware failures
- Maintaining physical (hardware) backup servers
- Rebuilding RAID on replacement storage hardware
- Maintaining web service platforms
- Providing remote support to the IT support team/function
Maintaining continuous professional development on systems’ administration
- Undertaking ongoing research on prevailing and emerging systems’ technologies
- Identifying, testing and recommending potential new/improved systems and technologies
Performing general administrative duties
- Checking health status of daily server backups and replications
- Providing and maintaining single sign on security parameters for internal systems
- Assigning document server and end user IP addresses
- Conducting periodic, scheduled systems checks
- Monitoring system health indicators
- Maintaining currency of existing, scheduled systems licences
- Documenting web services’ configurations
- Interacting and communicating professionally with vendors and managers
- Managing software licenses
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12
- A+ Certificate and N+ Certificate
- Linux LPIC-1
- VMWare certification
- MCSE
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in an IT Support role in a high paced, medium to large corporate environment
- Previous/recent experience as a system administrator in a fast-paced, medium to large corporate environment
- Practical experience with server hardware
- Applied experience with Dell and HP software
- Practical experience in network administration
- Practicable experience with Infrastructure, Linux Server, Microsoft Systems
- Hands-on experience in Windows server 2019-2016, hyper v, designing and implementing a server
- Intense knowledge of internet protocols, services and standards
- Solid understanding of network automation, telemetry, and SDN (Software Defined Networking)
- Strong understanding of physical cabling
- Able to lift/carry equipment minimum of 20 kilograms
- Working at heights and in confined spaces
- Driver’s licence and own transport
- Occasional night-time driving and working
- Working hours: Monday to Friday from 08h00 to 17h00 – occasional after hours call outs (including weekends and public holidays). Scheduled standby and call out shifts)
