Our client is looking for a versatile and detail-oriented finance manager to take ownership of the financial operations across a hybrid structure, which comprises three non-profit organisations (NPOs) and associated for-profit entities. The role requires strong technical expertise and the ability to navigate the complexities of both donor-funded and commercial environments.
The role is suited to a commercially minded finance professional who is equally comfortable operating in a regulated NPO environment. The finance manager will report to the general manager and requires regular interaction with senior leadership and key stakeholders.
The finance manager will lead and develop a team of two to three bookkeepers and finance administrators, driving high standards of delivery, accountability and continuous improvement.
The Role
Core responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Financial strategy: Act as a financial partner to leadership, providing insight that informs strategic decision-making and long-term sustainability across both the NPO and commercial operations
- Financial reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Budgeting and forecasting: Develop and monitor annual budgets, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and financial constraints
- Grant and fund management: For the NPO, manage and track grants, donations and other funding sources, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and budget allocations. Prepare and submit donor reports where required
- Revenue and expense management: Oversee accounts payable and receivable, process invoices, manage donations, and ensure timely collection of payments across all entities
- Tax compliance: Manage tax filings for both non-profit and for-profit entities, ensuring compliance with relevant tax legislation
- NPO compliance: Maintain and monitor financial and statutory records to ensure alignment with approved public benefit activities, safeguarding compliance with SARS Section 30 and 18A requirements
- Payroll management: Oversee payroll processing across both organisations, ensuring accurate tax withholdings and benefit allocations
- Audit preparation: Prepare for and support financial audits, ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting
- Internal controls: Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity
- Operational requirements: Maintenance of insurance and other related administrative needs
- Company secretarial: Manage company secretarial and governance requirements, including statutory compliance, maintenance of records and coordination of board and regulatory filings
- Multi-entity reporting: Monitor and report on financial performance across multiple entities, ensuring clear differentiation between NPO and for-profit financials
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Commerce in accounting (or equivalent 3-year degree)
- 5 to 10 years’ relevant experience
- Completed SAICA articles (mid-tier firm preferred)
- SAIPA or CIMA accreditation advantageous
- Experience working with auditors and tax authorities
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong working knowledge of Sage products
